Julius is an open source reimplementation of the classic Caesar 3, which offers exactly the same gaming experience as the original, but with small improvements to the interface, making it much better to play at high resolutions. After all, the original game did not even include support for widescreen resolutions. With this version of the game, you'll be able to play in any resolution you want.
You need the original Caesar 3 files
Installing Julius is very simple, but you'll need to have the original game files to be able to play the game. You can use the files from any copy of the game: the GOG one works perfectly, as does the Steam one and even the original CD-ROM version. All you have to do is unzip the compressed file inside the game folder and run Julius.exe. It's important to note that the official Caesar 3 demo is not compatible with Julius.
Improvements over the original
In essence, Julius and Caesar 3 are virtually identical in terms of gameplay. However, there are some small changes that aim to improve the gaming experience. The most obvious changes include support for all types of resolutions, as well as windowed gameplay. You'll also find new keyboard shortcuts, which you can configure from the Options Menu. Even some of the most well-known bugs from the original game have been fixed.
An outstanding management and strategy game
Julius was considered one of the best games of the year when it came out on Windows, back in 1998. And rightly so. It's an exceptional strategy and management game that, despite the passing of the years, still looks impressive. It's also a complex game, so it's best to take a look at the game's instruction manual if you have any questions (which is very possible if it's your first time playing).
The best way to play Caesar 3 on Windows
Download Julius to enjoy the same Caesar III as always, now with better visuals and fewer bugs. This open source version is so faithful to the original title that even its game saves are compatible. This is a real treat for anyone who loves city-builders or strategy games in general.
